Building Geological Excellence Since 1982
The Department of Geology at Government Dungar College, Bikaner, stands as one of the most
prominent centres of geoscience education in Rajasthan, with a distinguished legacy of teaching, research,
and field-based training. Established with the introduction of Geology in the B.Sc. curriculum in 1982, the
department was envisioned to meet the growing need for scientific understanding of the Earth and its
processes.
Building upon the successful foundation of undergraduate education, the Postgraduate
programme was introduced in 1988, further strengthening academic and research activities. The
department acquired its own dedicated building in 1993, providing a strong institutional base for its continued
growth.
The department offers Undergraduate (B.Sc.), Postgraduate (M.Sc.), andDoctoral (Ph.D.)
programmes, covering a wide spectrum of core and applied geoscience disciplines. Geology, being inherently
multidisciplinary, draws upon physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics, and this integrated approach is
reflected in the department's curriculum and teaching methodology.
